Round Windows for a Hobbit House
Hi, I’m Caleb with Dansie Design Build in Herriman, Utah. Today, we will show you how round windows will be framed and installed on a Hobbit house.
This one is a fixed window, meaning it cannot open and close — it’s just set in place. Its size is 24 inches. In reality, it’s 1/2 inch smaller than that.
When we frame the opening, we will frame these two round windows at 24 inches, and the other is 23 1/2 inches. We will have 1/4 inch of space on either side to give us a little wiggle room to position it perfectly.
Framing the Round Windows
Then, we’ll need to put a few more blocks around the circular window opening to create more sides of this octagon so that it’s more like a circle. Once done, we’ll put the outside sheathing and the window on.
The final step is to wrap the inside with the drywall on the window sills to create that circular window sill.
