Paint Prep for a Herriman, Utah Basement Finish
Hey, it’s Caleb Dansie here with Dansie Design Build. And I wanted to show you guys what we’re doing here with a paint job in this basement in Herriman. So we’re finishing this basement, and the paint job looks great. We have the right products on the walls, the right painter doing the job, and the proper prep going into the job to make this paint job last a long time and look amazing. So let’s check out what we’re doing here.
Before You Use a Color Paint, Use a Primer and Filler
You may notice many of these red spots on the casings as we look across the room. Those red spots are a filler product applied after we’ve done all the priming. So all these walls are primed. The ceilings are done and have the finished coat of paint on them. Now, we’re shining a light on the casings and revealing imperfections in the wood that need filling and sanded.
Label Your Doors for Where They Need to Go to Avoid Confusion
We’ve labeled the doors and put a piece of tape telling us which doors go where, so when we put them back together, we can get the doors back in the correct jams. We will get an exact fit and won’t be scrambling and switching doors up.
How to Hide Imperfections Before Applying a Color Paint to Your Walls
So this is prepared now and is filled with a Bondo product that we’ll let dry and then come back tomorrow and sand it off. So all these details are what a builder loves to see going on. The detail of the craftsmanship is just top-notch, and the imperfections will be smooth and hidden under the color coats of paint going on next. It will be left smooth and have a seamless finish.
You’ll remember from our other video about footings and paint prep; that some sanding was happening. Then we had the Bondo underneath. So we still have a little more touch-up after the priming. But overall, this is looking great. If you look at the corner we looked at before, you can see that it will have crisp trim and millwork finish with the paint we’re using.
Essential Things to Remember About Painting Your Home
Some essential things to remember about painting are the actual paint products you decide to use, the amount of preparation you put into painting your home, and the painter who does the work.
